3. Properties and Action According to Indigenous
Medical Systems:
- Rasa: Very bitter.
- Vipak: Spicy.
- Veerya: Ushna veerya.
4. Uses:
- The fruit is a good remedy for anemia, ascites, asthma
and bronchitis.
- It cures constipation, adenopathy, bilious disorders,
urinogenital disorders, cancer, dropsy, cholagogue, and
fever.
- The oil of the seeds enhances hair growth.
- Ophthalmia, uterine pain, foetal atrophy, jaundice, leucoderma,
spleeno-megaly can be control by this herb.
- It affects throat diseases related to tubercular glands,
tumors, ulcers, and urinary discharges, joint pain, sciatica,
gout and hemiplegia[paralysis affecting only one side of
body].
- The leaves of Colocynth can be used for ascites, bronchial
asthma, palsy and elephantiasis.
- This also causes abortion.
- The root is used for arthritic pain, breast inflammation,
ophthalmia, leprosy, filariasis dyspepsia and uterine pain.
- Amenorrhoea, ascites, tumors (especially of the abdomen),
carcinoma, endothelioma, leukemia, corns, tumors of the
liver, spleen, and even the eyes can be curable by this
plant.
- Good remedy for jaundice, leukemia, rheumatism, snakebite
with other herbs.
