Contents: Its seeds have b-sitosterols, its fruits contain citric, malic and Gallic acids.

3. Properties and Action According to Indigenous Medical Systems:

  • Rasa: A blend of sweet, sour and astringent.
  • Vipaka: Sweet.
  • Veerya: Seetaveerya.

4. Uses:

  • Blood-purifier.
  • The leaves of the Jambolan are antibacterial.
  • The leaves strengthens the teeth and gums.
  • The seeds and decoction of bark are good remedies for diabities.
  • It cures diarrhoea and ringworm.
  • It cures secondary syphilis and rheumatism[especially with stiff joints].
  • The fruit is sweet, it acts a tonic.
  • The bark is astringent, sweet sour, good for sore throat, anthelmintic, Diarrhea.
  • The decoction of bark is diuretic and digestive.
  • The bark is a remedy for skin inflammation, indigestion, gas, spasms, water retention.
  • It also helps to raise the deteriorated sexual desire.
  • It kills germs.
  • Some times this is also used as a remedy for leprosy and pthisis.
  • It also used as a healing herb for tuberculosis which affects neck [scrofula].

  • Mahaskanda: With big trunk.
