Contents: Its seeds have b-sitosterols, its fruits
contain citric, malic and Gallic acids.
3. Properties and Action According to Indigenous
Medical Systems:
- Rasa: A blend of sweet, sour and astringent.
- Vipaka: Sweet.
- Veerya: Seetaveerya.
4. Uses:
- Blood-purifier.
- The leaves of the Jambolan are antibacterial.
- The leaves strengthens the teeth and gums.
- The seeds and decoction of bark are good remedies for
diabities.
- It cures diarrhoea and ringworm.
- It cures secondary syphilis and rheumatism[especially
with stiff joints].
- The fruit is sweet, it acts a tonic.
- The bark is astringent, sweet sour, good for sore throat,
anthelmintic, Diarrhea.
- The decoction of bark is diuretic and digestive.
- The bark is a remedy for skin inflammation, indigestion,
gas, spasms, water retention.
- It also helps to raise the deteriorated sexual desire.
- It kills germs.
- Some times this is also used as a remedy for leprosy and
pthisis.
- It also used as a healing herb for tuberculosis which
affects neck [scrofula].
